I'm using a Mac and no problems here (tried exactly the same as above). Apparently unices don't bite each other in this respect.

Hello
I have this problems sometimes not always with my linux desktop (suse 10.1). I have not seen this problem from my windows desktop yet . I see this problem only over samba , not over nfs . I am not shure , what is the reason for this . I have another linuxserver with suse 10.1 with a samba server , maybee he is fighting against fsg. Sometimes i cannot connect with my linux desktop to fsg , if the linux server is not running. Also i have somtimes ( if the other error is aktiv) a problem to overwrite or delete files over samba. .At the weekend i will make some test and change the configuration of my linux server and fsg.

Heinz

SMN > no way for you to test under a Windows computer ?

It's weird that nobody has any clue about this problem, and hopefully (!?) i'm not the only guy suffering from this bug !! I've searched about samba server bug, but nothing about this sort of problem.

It's a bug in the Samba server, so it won't show up over NFS mounts and it only affects files that are truncated (being overwritten with a If you use an editor/application that deletes or renames a file before writing the new contents you won't see the problem.

The optware 3.0.25b version of Samba works correctly but doesn't integrate with the FSG web management, so it's only an alternative for someone who's happy to set up the Samba configuration by hand.

One of the things that attracted me to the FSG was the fact that it's based on Linux/opensource projects. If FSG did the right thing and generated source snapshots at the same time as they did beta releases bugs like these would get diagnosed and fixed promptly by the user community.

Hello
I could solve the conection problem with my suse desktop. I insert this lines in smb.conf :
Code:
domain master = Yes
local master = Yes
preferred master = Yes
os level = 66

In my opinion the samba server on fsg is buggy as described by guest.
Heinz.

I have a similar problem. I'm trying to edit a file on the FSG via a windows share. It just will not save any updates unless I delete the file from the FSG first (reverts back to original unedited text).

Very scary!!!!

I tried this on /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf under [global] and [FSG] but it had no effect :(

(WinXP + FSG)

Nobody at Freecom seems to be interested in this heavy bug.
Throw away the box and buy another from another manufacturer?
At the moment I see this as only alternative.

Who build this bug in the new firmware?
Perhaps he can give some hints?

Any idea when this will be fixed?

It is not just with editing files, it is with copying also:

- Copy file from PC to ND Pro 500 (my case)

- Make original file on PC smaller

- Copy new version from PC to ND Pro 500

Copy on ND Pro will RETAIN OLD, bigger size and last bytes in file will be from previous version!

I have to test this, but if this is the case at least in Austria + Germany this falls under "Gewährleistung", so just return the crap.

Call support, wrote couple of mails, but still no reply.

If they do not reply by end of week and/or confirm that there is new firmware very soon, I am returning unit and getting full refund - it is ridiculous that file server corrupts my files.

Also, will make sure that this goes on my blog and other places - do not want that someone else loses this amount of time because of something which is supposed to be consumer unit: buy it, plug it and it works as advertised.

Just checked on my Macbook running Leopard - there it works perfectly fine. But I could not find anything related to WinXP.
