Compatible Printers
From OpenFSG
|
Beware, whilst the FSG may be compatible with the following printers, it does not work under windows with more than one printer. The USB port allocated by the FSG changes depending on the order in which printers turn on rather than the actual USB to which they are attached and windows (and probably other operating systems) cannot adapt to this bug in the FSG. Therefore unless you are prepared to turn on your printers in a specified order each time you reboot the FSG it is practically incompatible with multiple printers.

USB to Parallel Adapter Cables
Most printers with Parallel port can nevertheless be connected using a USB to Parallel adapter cable that is based on a chipset supported by the Linux usblp driver that is present in the Freecom Firmware. Reports on chipsets supported by the usblp driver can be found on, e.g.:
In particular adapter cables that use the following chipsets are known to work with FSG, DTG, and ND pro:
- PL-2305: Prolific Technology Inc. IEEE-1284 Controller
Note that it has been observed that printing does not work anymore with a USB to Parallel adapter cable after switching the printer off and on again while the Freecom device is running. Rebooting the Freecom device does definitely solve this problem, but usually plugging the USB to Parallel Adapter Cable from the Freecom device's USB port out and in again is already sufficient.
