How to set up a network printer on the NDP.

Intro

The instructions here are for win XP PRO, other OS may be similar but I'm unable to test these. Do the same thing on every pc that you want to print from. this method does not require the use or installation of the FNSA software.

its been a while since I actually did this but I believe this to work. This is a Wiki so feel free to edit!

Oh, and remember, even once you've done this, not all printers will work with the p9100nd daemon that runs on the NDP. There is a list of compatible printers here (from the front page of this site).

  • I think the more Bi directional support a printer needs, the less likely it is to work.
  • The p9100nd daemon does not currently permit the printer to send data back to the pc. I.e my Canon BJC8200 works fine in every way but I get "printer not responding" message back from the xp print driver software.
    • Latest versions of p9100nd do support bi directional data but are not as yet implemented into the NDP firmware (see more details here). Reasoning for this is so that the NDP CPU isn't bogged down with printer activity.
    • There is a fix for this problem, but i currently don't have the skill to implement it & no one else seems to want to help, see here for info on that http://www.openfsg.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5962
