Setup your NDP basic connection (Basic Setup)

This is really fundamental stuff but questions have been asked allot of times as a result of poor initial set-up. Whether that's the manuals fault I don't know, I've never read it.

This article describes a common set-up consisting of single or multiple PCs connected to a Router either via LAN or wirelessly. the NDP would also in this case be connected to the same router. Alternatively all the PC's the router and the DNP could be connected to a switch. In this configuration the router could just be replace with a DSL modem or similar, However in this case all the PCs should have a fixed IP as well. In my particular set-up I have 3 PCs, 1 ADSL modem wireless router & 1 NDP connected to a GB router & 1 laptop connected wirelessly via the router. If you don't have either a router or a switch, you can connect the NDP via LAN cable directly to your PC using a standard cat 5 or 5e cable. a twisted pair is NOT required.

Any way here go's

I suggest that you give your NDP a fixed IP address and not let it choose its own. This way you'll avoid any conflict related problems between your routers DHCP Server and the NDP's DHCP Client.

to do this, set-up up you NDP basic configuration screen like this (login through web browser) ......

I would suggest that you give your NDP an address which is outside the range of your routers DHCP server. You can see what this range is and adjust it in your routers configuration pages. example below.....

Notice that the 3 pc's on my network are all within the DHCP range, so are dynamically assigned an ip address. the NDP is not, it all ways has the 192.168.1.110 & no pc can be dynamically assigned that number as the upper limit of the DHCP server range is 192.168.1.109.

That's it! other than make sure you all ways use the same subnet mask across your network. You should be pretty much trouble free after that.

Enjoy
